Meet Brittney

Why I Teach Music

My parents put me in piano lessons when I was six years old, and by fifth grade I had joined choir. Music quickly became the backdrop of my childhood, from arranging concerts for my family during the holidays to accompanying my high school choir at competitions.

I never imagined pursuing music beyond high school until my choir director inspired me to consider music education as a career. I went on to study piano and choral education at the University of Nebraska and Texas Lutheran University, later completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Texas State University. The combination of music and psychology shaped the way I teach today, with equal focus on technical skill and personal growth.

Music is more than something I do. It grounds me, inspires me, and challenges me. Because I have been both the nervous beginner and the confident performer, I know how to guide students through every stage of learning, from their very first notes to standing proudly on stage at a recital.

I believe lessons should build more than musical skill. They teach accountability, perseverance, and confidence. That is why I expect my students to practice regularly, participate in recitals, and commit to lessons for the long term. Those habits create internal transformation: young learners who take pride in their growth and carry that confidence into every area of life, and adults who discover the joy of creating music with their own hands.

For me, teaching is not just about music. It is about shaping life-long musicians and resilient individuals.
