Every child learns and grows at a different pace. I have started teaching piano to students as young as 3 years old, but most young pianists are 5 years or older. Guitar and ukulele is best at 6 years or older. The free introduction lesson will allow me to assess if starting music lessons is right at this time.
Parents are encouraged to sit in the lesson for the first 2 months. This allows you to be able to learn music basics along with your child so you can help them with practice at home.
Learning to play piano, or any instrument, is like learning a new language. It takes daily practice to adequately retain the knowledge gained from weekly lessons. There is no age limit to music. How quickly and consistently a student progresses is based on the student's commitment to practice.
New students must have an 88-key instrument to practice on at home. This can be an electric keyboard or acoustic piano. Although smaller keyboards have some benefit, students will develop best with a full-size piano to play on. Prices range from $150-$1000 based on your preference of buying new or used.
